What is a Celebrant:
Celebrants can create a personalised ceremony for any occasion. But perhaps we should look at what is a ceremony – a formal act or series of acts prescribed by ritual, protocol, or convention. Celebrants perform ceremonies marking some of life’s biggest milestones. Officiating at weddings, vow renewals, baby naming / adoption ceremonies and funerals to name but a few. They are not bound by legalities or religion. If you want to celebrate something, anything, then a celebrant can help you style your dreams into a perfect ceremony. A celebrant led ceremony can combine tradition with the new and make something as unique and individual as you.
There are differences in type of celebrant. You may have heard of Humanist celebrants. They can perform a ceremony for you, but because they do not believe in any religion, they would not be able to give you everything you may want. It would not be possible to have any sort of religious content in your ceremony such as a hymn or bible reading. Likewise a member of the church would not be able to give you any type of ritual such as hand fasting or Polterabend (Germany) : Jumping the broom (Scotland). This is why making a decision about the type of celebrant you want is as important as the ceremony you want. Celebrants are not a one cap fits all. It is important you find someone you trust.

A celebrant will create a bespoke, meaningful ceremony that isn’t religious in its nature, but can include any readings, scriptural or otherwise, poems and rituals. They can do what YOU want.
